Some Help with the Treatment of Herpes

Herpes is most probably one of the most difficult STD's to live with and this is simply because there isn't any cure. Patients can be forced to deal with outbreaks multiple times in a year and this causes them lots of discomfort. This disease is also very bad because it causes patients a lot of pain. If you are suffering from this disease, it is very important that you get the proper medication to help ease your suffering. It is also important for you to refrain from having sexual relations with another person unless you are okay with infecting them as well. And as far as the correct treatment of herpes is concerned, it will depend mostly on whether you have been infected for the 1st time or if it is an outbreak from prior infections. Here are some things for you to keep in mind when dealing with herpes:

1. If you have been infected by this disease for the 1st time then it is recommended that you take some antiviral tablets. You should be able to effectively treat the disease with a week's course of medication. You should not take such tablets for more than a week though as they are extremely powerful and can cause nausea as well as headaches when misused.

2. If you are suffering from frequent outbreaks of this disease then it is recommended that you go for a longer course of medication. You may have to consume medication as much as twice a day for at least 6 months for long term relief.

3. It is very important for you to carefully follow any instructions you receive from your physician when it comes to using such medications. It is also important that you complete your medication course as prescribed for the best results. There are many people that cease medication the moment they see an improvement in symptoms but this will have negative effects in the long run.

There are quite a few home remedies which you can try when it comes to preventing herpes as well. Here are a few of them:

1. You can use an ice pack to help reduce the pain. Just remember not to keep it on for too long or you may damage your sensitive skin.

2. You can also prevent this disease by keeping the infected area clean & dry all the time.

3. Petroleum jelly is quite effective when it comes to getting rid of blisters & reducing pain.

4. Lastly, drinking a lot of water will also help reduce the acidity in your urine thus reducing the burning sensation you feel in your genital area.
